The latest figures from CoreLogic show that Australian home values continued to rise in April. The national Home Value Index (HVI) increased by 0.6% in April, which is in line with the pace of growth seen in February and March. This means that the national median dwelling value has risen by approximately $4,720 since last month.

April’s increase takes the current growth cycle into its 15th month, with housing values up 11.1% or approximately $78,000 since the trough in January last year.

What we’re seeing beneath the headline numbers is that things are moving at different speeds. The mid-sized capitals are still leading the way. Perth is still at the top of the growth charts with a 2.0% rise in April, followed by Adelaide at 1.3% and Brisbane at 0.9%.

Sydney values have been pretty stable over the past three months, with a monthly change of +0.4%. Melbourne’s market has also been pretty steady, with a slight dip of -0.1% over the past three months.
