🔥Global sting sees Australian offenders arrested for cybercrime and phishing attacks

Following the international police takedown of a cybercrime platform used by cybercriminals to steal personal credentials from victims worldwide, including more than 94,000 people in Australia, five people have been arrested both domestically and abroad. According to reports, 10,000 cybercriminals worldwide, including Australian offenders, have been using the LabHost platform to deceive victims into divulging personal information like credit card numbers, passwords, and online banking logins through persistent phishing attacks sent via emails and texts. More than 200 members of the AFP and state and territory police participated in the execution of 22 search warrants spanning five states yesterday, April 17, 2024, as a result of the Australian branch of the investigation, which was headed by the AFP's Joint Policing Cybercrime Coordination Centre (JCP3). Of these, 14 were located in Victoria, 2 in Queensland, 3 in New South Wales, 1 in South Australia, and 2 in Western Australia. [ Read more ]

📢 Australia Post Warns Customers of Fraudulent Redelivery Requests

Customers of Australia Post are being alerted to a new email scam where thieves pretend to be the postal service in an attempt to obtain financial information and personal data. Australians are being targeted by con artists posing as the large delivery company with a variety of delivery scams. Some of the scams include saying that packages are being redirected until safe delivery can be made or requesting that customers click on a link to request redelivery for a fee. In an attempt to fool people into providing personal and financial information, cybercriminals send the phoney messages, something Australia Post claims it would "never" do. [ Read more ]

đź’µRing Settlement: $5.6M Returned to Affected Consumers

Following a settlement with Ring over allegations the company failed to implement security measures, allowing hackers to take control of customers' accounts, cameras, and videos, and allowed employees and contractors to view customers' private videos, the Federal Trade Commission is returning more than $5.6 million in refunds to customers.In a complaint first announced in May 2023, the FTC says that Ring deceived its customers by failing to restrict employees’ and contractors’ access to its customers’ videos, using its customer videos to train algorithms without consent, and failing to implement security safeguards.
