'Misidentification' caused Gaza air strike that killed Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom, Israeli military says.

"Mistake that followed a misidentification," the Israeli military says of the Gaza air strike that killed seven aid workers, including Australian Lalzawmi "Zomi" Frankcom.

“I want to be very clear—the strike was not carried out with the intention of harming WCK aid workers. It was a mistake that followed a misidentification—at night during a war in very complex conditions. It shouldn’t have happened.” Halevi said in a twitter post.

Ms. Frankcom was employed by the nonprofit World Central Kitchen (WCK) along with Palestinians, British, Polish, and dual US-Canadian nationals. On Monday night, local time, an Israeli airstrike struck their convoy.

Earlier, In the wake of an Israeli airstrike that claimed the life of an Australian aid worker in central Gaza, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says he has spoken with the Israeli premier. Australian aid worker Lalzawmi "Zomi" Frankcom and six other people were killed in Gaza by an Israel Defence Forces (IDF) air strike, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed. Mr. Albanese claimed to have told Mr. Netanyahu that the tragedy of Ms. Frankcom's death had outraged Australians in "very clear terms."
