The alleged stabbing at Christ The Good Shepherd Church has been labelled a "terrorist act" by NSW Police.

After late-night phone calls in the early hours of Tuesday, police are treating the alleged stabbing of a Christian bishop and priest as a terrorist incident. At 7.10pm Monday, a 16-year-old boy stabbed Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel while preaching at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, according to a livestream. Stabbings injured two others and a priest. NSW Commissioner Karen Webb declared it a terrorist act at 1.35am, which Police Minister Yasmin Catley confirmed at 1.45am and contacted Premier Chris Minns at 2am. On Tuesday morning, Mr. Minns said police were conducting a “major and serious criminal investigation”.

It is crucial that New South Wales police are able to devote their resources and intelligence as well as officers to the investigation of this crime.

Police say the boy was seriously injured and rumours say his finger was cut off during the melee. Police are holding him at an undisclosed hospital.

A teenager remains in police custody following an alleged stabbing at a church in Sydney’s south-west overnight.

Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command attended and found a 53-year-old man with lacerations to his head, and a 39-year-old man, who was injured after attempting to intervene, suffered lacerations and a shoulder wound.

They were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 16-year-old boy, who had been restrained by members of the public, was arrested by police.

A large crowd gathered outside, with further police from across the Metropolitan Region, including specialist units attending.

During a public order incident, projectiles were thrown at officers, during which a number of police officers were injured, police vehicles damaged, and property stolen.

The 16-year-old was removed from the church and taken to hospital where he remains under police guard. He has undergone surgery for injuries sustained during the alleged attack.

As a result of the incident a number of officers were struck by objects and suffered various injuries which required treatment.

Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command have established Strike Force Petrina to investigate the stabbing, and Strike Force Dribs to investigate the public order incident and identify those involved.
